The heroes are investigating one of the lairs of the departed Hobgoblin Legion of the Horned Society, one of the shuddering units dispatched by the Hierarchs to wreak terror and conquer. They stop over at Snig Hill on the way into the untamed North. Heer they encounter hideous undead that have emerged from some ancient crypt. In the battle Cassandra magically disappears.

Travelling on the heroes explore the hobgoblin sink holes, dispersing hooded figures and killing a hobgoblin shaman. They uncover a letter, a map belonging to Leommund the Wizard, elvish wooden armour and a shadow fey blade of the Raven Queen.
